Walking & Cycling

  • Always let someone know where you are going, or to expect your arrival
  • Wear sensible footwear that is easy to walk or run in
  • Keep to well lit roads and areas, avoid alleys, sub-ways & shortcuts
  • Walk facing the traffic, and on the street side of the pavement
  • Do not wear a personal stereo - it reduces your awareness
  • In conversation with strangers - don't give away personal information
  • Avoid crowds or people which may feel threatening
  • Be wary of stationery vehicles with engines running and people sitting in them
  • Ensure your cycle is in good working order
  • Make sure that both you and your cycle are easily visible (day & night)
  • Always trust your intuition
