- If you are in any doubt as to the location or the person you are meeting
- Ask a colleague to accompany you
- Rearrange the meeting at a more suitable location
- Consider calling the person before the meeting to
- Confirm arrangements
- Establish their mood/state of mind
- Check your mobile phone is charged and switched on
On Your Approach To The Visit
- Select your parking space and position your vehicle for a quick exit
- Assess the environment before committing yourself
- Wait and listen, before knocking on the door
- Knock on the door and step back
- Do not enter if the appropriate person is not available
- Always trust your intuition
Upon Your Arrival
- Do Not enter the premises if the person is drunk or aggressive
- Only take into the house what you need
- Take care with documents you do not wish them to see
- Check how the front door closes or locks
- Study your surroundings, know the exits
- Try to sit nearest the door, Don't get trapped
- If you feel at risk, make an excuse and leave
- If prevented from leaving or threatened, stay calm and try to control the situation
- Show respect for other people, their property or culture
- Remain alert - watch for mood changes
Upon your return
- Report any incidents that may have occurred
- Ensure information regarding risk is passed to other colleagues, and information written into the file
- Review safe practice with colleagues at meetings
